PAACS Resident Profile

Dr. Eric Yegon
Orthopaedic Surgery Resident
Tenwek Hospital, Kenya

Dr. Eric Yegon is in his fourth year at Tenwek Hospital in the Orthopaedic program. He was drawn to the Pan-African Academy of Christian Surgeons (PAACS) because of what it represents - the opportunity to grow in both skills and faith. PAACS training and mentorship has provided him with advanced surgical skills that he once thought would be impossible to receive. Being surrounded by so many fellow believers, he’s also grown closer to Christ. Through times of great fellowship with the faculty and fellow residents, and an atmosphere open to questions (and sometimes debates) together they are each digging deeper into their own faith. For him personally, it has provided a sense of purpose and direction.

REMARKABLE OUTCOMES

God is on the move and touching many lives through the PAACS program at Tenwek Hospital. Dr. Yegon has received patients with very difficult cases. After reviewing textbooks and finding similarly documented cases, the prognosis can look grim. Yet, when he steps into the operating room, he has gained the confidence to apply all that he has learned through his PAACS training, even when the next step wasn’t found in a textbook. With his trust in the Ultimate Healer, he has witnessed many remarkable outcomes! Even non-believers who have come through the hospital have acknowledged, “God is in this place.”

GOD WILL FINISH THE STORY HE HAS STARTED

Recently a visiting consultant spoke of Jeremiah 33:3 – “Call to Me, and I will answer you, and show you great and mighty things, which you do not know.” He’s been holding tightly to this message. While he has not quite figured out his plans after graduation, there is great need at Tenwek Hospital and he would like to stay on for some time afterwards. Beyond that, he trusts the Lord to finish the story that He has started in him.
