PAACS Resident Profile
Dr. Louisa Nwachukwu
Dr. Louisa Nwachukwu is training to become a surgeon with the Pan-African Academy of Christian Surgeons (PAACS) because she feels it is her calling to partner with God. The need for surgeons in Africa can not be over emphasized, it is enormous. While surgery can be both curative and preventative, as a surgeon she chooses to stand as an agent of God. Surgery is a great platform to reach the lost where she can show them love through the skills God has bestowed upon her. She chooses to point patients daily to Christ by living the gospel and ministering to the sick.
GALMI PROVIDES A HEALTHY LEARNING ENVIRONMENT
In her first year at SIM Galmi Hospital in Niger, she has been surrounded by a healthy learning environment in the PAACS training program. She appreciates the balance of learning and spiritual growth. The faculty is full of patience while teaching residents, preparing them for the point where they can be trusted with a patient. From how to hold a knife, to answering questions, and even sharing their own struggles, the faculty does it all with love. She feels blessed to have the opportunity to tap into the talent given to them by God.
JOY REPLACES FEAR
Dr. Nwachukwu has already experienced God impacting the lives of her patients. She is learning to pray for each patient before surgery and by their bedside, and to share the gospel with them. As patients begin healing, she sees the worried faces of loved ones become replaced by smiles and joy. Pain begins to disappear and with it despair and hopelessness fade away. She is becoming more compassionate and understanding of the fears and worries that her patients are experiencing. She has laughed, smiled, and even cried alongside them and their family.
It is both glorious and humbling to see the power of God and recognize that she is treating the patient, but the Lord brings final healing. She thanks God for all that He is doing through PAACS.
“I am beyond thrilled for the opportunities He has given me, the strength of an army of great surgeons to learn from. I for one cannot wait to see what God will make out of this life. I am totally sold out to Him!”
