Dr. Jacques Ebhele
Dr. Jacques Ebhele is a PAACS graduate from the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC). He started his training with PAACS at Ngaoundéré Protestant Hospital in Cameroon (a program which closed at the end of 2010). His general surgery training was completed at Bongolo Hospital in Gabon.
Dr. Ebhele's journey reflects the power of faith, perseverance, and the miraculous hand of God. Trained by PAACS as a skilled surgeon, teacher, preacher, and leader, he embraced his calling wholeheartedly. He spent time learning and sharing the bible, praying, and counseling patients and fellow residents. However, amidst his many gifts, the one longing that remained unfulfilled was becoming a father. He and his wife yearned to become parents. In their desperation, they made a heartfelt promise saying, "If God gives us a child, we will testify to the entire world what He has done for us."
The years passed and prayers seemingly went unanswered. The PAACS family and many others stood alongside them, petitioning before God. In these times, Dr. Ebhele and his wife clung to their faith, standing strong despite discouragement. One day, they decided to stop crying and asking for a child, and start thanking the Lord in faith, giving gratitude for the baby instead. They knew the word of the Lord stated that their faith as small as a mustard seed had the power to move mountains.
Their mountain was full of challenges. Amidst the wait, Dr. Ebhele's wife faced a potential obstacle due to a cyst, putting her health at risk. However, unwavering in their faith, they put their trust in the Lord. On a day that was meant to confirm the cyst's growth, they received miraculous news: they were expecting a baby! Their prayers of faith, gratitude, and thanksgiving were met with a miracle. The couple's lives were soon blessed four times over through the next few years. They now have three boys and one daughter. What a testimony God provided that they can now share with the world!
Fueled by the unwavering support and prayers of the PAACS family, Dr. Ebhele's graduation was only the beginning of his journey. As a leader, he served as PAACS faculty and Assistant Program Director at Mbingo Baptist Hospital in Cameroon. Later, he would go on to serve in Malawi.
Eventually, he found his way back to his home country, the DRC. He is serving right in the middle of the devastation in Bunia, a sanctuary city for many eastern Congolese who are are escaping the guerilla violence in the countryside. The city has exploded to over 2 million people. He serves as the Chief of Surgery at Elikya Hospital. However, his wife and children are living in Uganda, because there are no proper schools for their children’s education. Despite the challenges and personal sacrifices, he's continuing to trust God's will for his life. Dr. Ebhele is one of an estimated 75 general surgeons for the entire country of nearly 112. million people. This averages to each surgeon caring for nearly 1.5 million people. Dr. Ebhele understands the significance of his testimony and his PAACS training in bringing healing and hope to those who desperately need it in the DRC.
Recently, he consulted with a 28 year old woman who was unable to get pregnant. She and her husband had been married for six years and longed for a child. Dr. Ebhele prayed with her and used his own testimony of what God had done for his family to encourage them. He shared that faith, even as small as a mustard seed, was sufficient. He asked them to thank the Lord for the baby in advance. Using the skills and knowledge the Lord gave him as a surgeon, he operated and freed her fallopian tubes. Through the power of the Lord and surgery, this young woman got pregnant and soon delivered a healthy baby girl. We praise God not only for the baby, but also for the couple who has now put their faith in Jesus Christ. God used their situation as a turning point, and they have decided to follow Jesus as their Savior!
Dr. Ebhele's conviction is clear. With his surgical training through PAACS, lives can be saved. But it is by calling on Jesus daily that miraculous interventions occur. His life exemplifies the blend of surgical expertise and dependence on the Lord, which continuously brings glory to God's name.
