What We Do

The Pan-African Academy of Christian Surgeons (PAACS) is a strategic response to the need for surgeons, anesthesiologists, and obstetrician/gynecologists in Africa. PAACS trains African physicians as surgeons and related specialists to care for the poor and the sick. PAACS also disciples these trainees to share the love of Christ with their patients to bring hope to those who are suffering.

News and Notes

The Malamulo PAACS team gathered for a spiritual retreat at the base of Mulanje Mountain, where faculty and theatre staff spent time in teaching, reflection, and fellowship focused on Colossians 3. Led by Pastor Mpeni and joined by PAACS leadership, the retreat strengthened spiritual formation, unity, and Christ-centered care within the program.

PAACS continues to expand Saline Process Witness Training across its training sites, equipping residents and faculty to integrate faith, discipleship, and compassionate witness into clinical practice. This article highlights recent trainings, including a vibrant and impactful workshop at Bongolo Hospital, and reflects the Christ-centered community that defines PAACS programs.

This reflective article challenges the question “What is a PAACS program?” by shifting the focus from checklists and facilities to people shaped by faith, skill, courage, and compassion. Drawing from a site visit to Eswatini, it explores how PAACS is ultimately defined not by structures, but by who we are and how God forms surgeons to serve in the hardest places.
